These drones will begin operating in select urban and suburban areas, drastically reducing delivery times for packages under 5 pounds. The drones are designed to operate within a 10-mile radius of fulfillment centers, and they can deliver packages in under 30 minutes from the moment the order is placed. The rollout of these drones is expected to improve last-mile delivery efficiency, especially during high-demand periods such as the holiday season. With this expansion, Amazon is also set to test new technologies for autonomous navigation, which may one day be incorporated into other aspects of its logistics network.
